Among the weaker South Park gags is “reality” personified as a cartoon villain who crashes the party with unpalatable truths the people are trying to escape, in the end they execute him. It’s a little too straight. How would you rewrite this character?

Huh that’s a very good suggestion. It’s very close to Mr. Dick in David Copperfield, who plays exactly that role (he’s mentally disabled but keeps everybody grounded in reality).
