This idea of subscendence, (that ontologically, the whole is less than the sum of the parts), is interesting. It strikes me as a non-trivial tautology. I'd restate as "emergences occupy only a fraction of constituent product phase space. e-flux.com/journal/85/156

Otoh, applying a Stuart Kauffman idea, if the emergent phase space cannot be pre-specified as some sort of subspace, it is unclear what the point is.

I like the idea of a manager with no product in emergency mode trying to get employees to make a product. I'd watch the YouTube video.
