Have you ever had an object lost, stolen, damaged, or destroyed that felt somewhat similar to a human you’re related to getting hurt or dying? Ie qualitatively similar sense of subjective loss even if less intense? If so, what was the object, and what was your history with it?

Nothing actually important or of real sentimental value appears to be missing, so it’s probably ignorable, but still a box of externalized soul with indeterminate contents is gone, so the unknown-known objects seem to be imbued with the average significance of objects we own.

We were once in a hurry to clean out a storage locker, and I threw out a lot of accumulated cruft. My wife asked me what I threw out, and I said "What are you missing?" 11 years later she still asks me if missing object X was in that storage locker. Long reverberations.
