The goal is not to make AIs explainable but humans cryptic again. Recryptification. The natural life story of a human is cryptic and incompressible, irreducible to simple introductions. I’m the normal one here, all you people with simple introductions and titles are weird.

Institutions are biography compressors. When somebody asks for my story in a context where I have to actually answer non-flippantly, every non-institutional year of my life adds about a minute to my story, but every institutional year can be efficiently explained in 10 seconds.

The main danger of AI is not that their mystery will supplant humans, but that we will devalue humans in favor of supposedly infallible algorithmic decision making. I think this problem will sort of solve itself in the long run but you know what they say about that
