Having done it for a couple of months now, I realize why podcasting has exploded: modulo production tech, it's 10x easier for producers, even though it's much unfriendlier content form for consumers.

Is the reason it's easier that there are lower standards for the spoken word? I.e. would you be embarrassed to publish the transcript as an essay? Presumably, or the 10x difference in difficulty could be eliminated by dictating essays.

Yes. Even a moderately polished essay often has almost every sentence rethought/rewritten multiple times. The audio equivalent would be recording in multiple sentence-length takes with the script changing each time. A one-take podcast is like a first draft.

Except upon listening, audio first drafts don’t sound awful. That’s the inherent power of podcasts: they automatically bypass certain filter mechs.

Sure. That’s why I’m willing to post them as audio. When I start doing transcripts regularly, I’ll set low expectations.
