When I started , people advised me not to use the term "intellectual"; to use a stand-in.
I love the word. I love to read them and learn from them. I'm deeply thankful for their service.
If they weren't so attacked, more people would do this job and we'd all benefit.

Daring to call great things what they truly are, unafraid of what others might think, is a superpower.

I think you’re misreading the nature of intellectual work in a basic way, like it’s a consumer product. But you seem committed to your hypothesis, so godspeed as you follow it wherever it takes you. If I had a stake in it I’d say “disagree but commit”

You might be projecting something; I don't see intellectual work as a consumer product. I see it as - potentially, but not necessarily - leading to a role within society. The same way as teaching or healing isn't a consumer product.
I think this role should continue to exist.
