Is the reason it's easier that there are lower standards for the spoken word? I.e. would you be embarrassed to publish the transcript as an essay? Presumably, or the 10x difference in difficulty could be eliminated by dictating essays.

Yes. Even a moderately polished essay often has almost every sentence rethought/rewritten multiple times. The audio equivalent would be recording in multiple sentence-length takes with the script changing each time. A one-take podcast is like a first draft.

Why is it unfriendlier for consumers in your view?

not scannable or random access, can't follow hyperlinks while listening etc etc

I was thinking of using Otter as a "podcasting" app. Because it automatically generates editable transcripts alongside the audio.

Yeah I've tried that and Descript... not yet seamless enough

Disagree podcasts are unfriendly to consumers. It depends on the content. I listen to everything on 1.5x and aim for conversations/interviews/stories. It’s not great for every type of content, which is true for all media. It also has unique use cases (eg long driving, commute).

Across all types of content and consumers I think it is net worse than text. If I had to make an upfront veil of ignorance choice of medium before I knew what my idea and appropriate audience is going to be, I’d pick text.

Yours is inconvenient because you aren’t podcasting, you aren’t using the distribution method that defines the medium.

Afaik it’s set up correctly on iTunes so you should be able to subscribe on most apps. What am I not doing?
