The top-end marketers know that the concept of generations is nearly obsolete, but keep marketing the idea to lower-end marketers. Interests & networks over chronology when the internet makes culture asynchronous.

Born in 1983 but two older siblings and homeschooled with jobs so around people 3-10 years older all the time growing up and married young and kids young so I have always felt solidly gen x and not understood millennials much.

GenX culturally split between Boomer & Millennial tendencies, to large extent as a result of whether they considered themselves in the insider or outsider social class. There's a huge resurgence of '80s style & aesthetic as both parents & children want to reset the last 30 years.
