I find I’m generally suspicious of people who write primarily for lots of new media sites/blogs, with no strong personal blog. They are in the no-mans-land between staff writers at traditional media sites and bloggers. You can’t tell where they’re coming from or trying to go.

Staff writers at old newspaper/magazines... ok
Op-ed contributors/occasional freelancers in old media...ok
Bloggers who guest on other friendly blogs...ok
Shifty characters who hop from one vague new media site to another like they’re building an art portfolio 🤔🤨🧐

They can’t all be trying to star in some Very Online drama to make their bones and land an NYT op-ed gig can they?

Not everyone has the luxury of all that extra time that goes into a personal blog when they are focusing on developing bigger/better narratives for $. (Gotta pay the bills, yo)

There’s better ways to make money. Like driving Uber even.

I don’t get the value, so I’m suspicious. You’re not building traditional media cred. You’re not building your own channel/asset. You’re not making money.
So you’re either an idiot or up to something scammy/scummy. Especially if you can actually write decently.
