Been a good week on the consulting front, where it feels like I actually made a small difference on an interesting and important matter, in a way I never could have as a regular employee. Those are the kinds of weeks you gig for. Microdoses of a sense of psychohistorical agency.

One reason I do consulting instead of sticking to pure writing (besides $) is that pure writing is not a very satisfying life. Writing impact can occasionally be broad but is almost never deep. Psychohistorical nudging requires a kind of specificity general writing cannot achieve

Funny that. My take —at least when it comes to my writing— is its impact may be deep for certain individuals, and with great luck —but never broad. Which almost makes me want to not bother. Cult writers, I tell you...
