Wanted to update my understanding of the physics of time since I last got caught up in college. Picked Carlo Rovelli’s Order of Time as a decent looking read. It is quite delightful. I’d forgotten how much fun well-written pop-science can be. Recommended.

Though there don’t seem to have been significant new developments since I last read about this stuff, Rovelli’s non-technical explanations are much clearer. Particularly enjoyed his explanation of light cones perturbed by curved spacetime and why time stops at event horizons.

I still got lost trying to pop-grok what it means for the Dirac field to interact with the gravity field to create space-time-matter. I think I basically don’t get how to think with fields at some basic level, despite the best screwed-up zipper explanations from
