Request for hardware startup: a battery charge level indicator part under $5 (for both rechargeable sand non). and I had a brief slack discussion (see screenshots) on why this is a hard problem that’s important and useful to solve. Any bright ideas?

In this case +$4 to end user price would cover a battery level UX. It's a Product Manager problem. Either they did research and not everybody feels like you do, most prefer cheap. Or they got it wrong and wood sell more even at a higher price.

It's challenging for all chemistries all brands and all quality. And it's hard to sell anything standalone for $5. it's a product market fit problem again. Is it valuable if it only works for popular brand and good quality and 1 chemistry? Can I sell for$20 if it is full proof?
