Genuine question: what exactly are the major contributions of MIT media lab? I will admit my priors might be unfair,y hostile and my reaction to current travails a little too schadenfreude-ish.

Have you heard of One Laptop Per Child? (The $100 laptop for kids in developing countries that never really went anywhere) That was supposed to be the breakthrough project.

Not better by your idea of better perhaps, or those of certain categories of poor people. You’re heavily invested in a particular approach to helping the poor, and I respect that, but it’s not the only approach. By my philosophy, OLPC was doomed at conception.

There are no systems without fatal flaws. There are only those that last long enough, strongly enough, to help shape what comes after, and those that don’t. You can traffic in system labels if you like, but I don’t navigate by them.
