Half the interesting things I’ve learned in life have come out of asking, “why is this funny?”

Humor is the foundation of epistemic laziness. When you laugh, you’ve already done 90% of the work to discover a new truth. You just have to put in the remaining 10% work to figure out what it is and how to sell it for cash.

Certainly, in politics, asking that question is REMARKABLY revealing.

They’re the same question. Laughter acknowledges a sort of truth that’s just outside our conscious grasp. See, e.g., Oscar Wilde (“if you’re going to tell someone the truth, make them laugh. Otherwise they’ll kill you.”).

I see you make this point in a subsequent tweet.

I’d just also add that this is why false/inauthentic comedy with a political agenda is so repulsive.
