Has there ever been a uniquely American caffeinated gossip tradition like English afternoon tea/visiting time, German kaffeelklatsch or the Swedish Fika? There's watercooler gossip, but that seems more like a pick-up game than a set time for caffeine+snacks+gossip

that's one-on-one specifically scheduled rendezvous rather than a place/time where people generally show up for a drink and expecting to meet people they know
