Good “ordinary” joke just now on Royal Pains. The Divya character is standing in a slow line at a cafe (presumably slowed by frappucinnoistas) waiting to order a black coffee and complains “why can’t there be a line for us regular people?” Ironic but actually good queuing theory

Ordinary = simplest = shortest processing time = prioritized handling = mass unit economics This set of equivalences (not always true) is almost the basic logic of industrial normalcy.
