My general attitude towards comics is "I'll wait for the movie/TV show". I guess I miss out on a lot of good stuff that never makes it that far or is unsuitable for it. But damn, modern comics are WORK. Like trying to run multicore nonlinear out-of-order assembly in my head.

It takes a lot more generative work, similar to reading regular books. Listen for those little blips where your brain tries to run off into a tangent of scene, plot, etc. and let it run.

I think it's harder than regular text-only books because there's more layers of meaning encoded

Generally agreed. I had a blast with Appleseed. I think the dialogue can encourage those tangents.
