My general attitude towards comics is "I'll wait for the movie/TV show". I guess I miss out on a lot of good stuff that never makes it that far or is unsuitable for it. But damn, modern comics are WORK. Like trying to run multicore nonlinear out-of-order assembly in my head.

It takes a lot more generative work, similar to reading regular books. Listen for those little blips where your brain tries to run off into a tangent of scene, plot, etc. and let it run.

I think it's harder than regular text-only books because there's more layers of meaning encoded

I’m very picky when it comes to comedy, and consider it art. Perhaps precisely on account of this, I’ve never recommitted to a comedian since the loss of Greg Giraldo.

Sorry, miscommunication. I mean comicbooks/graphic novels, not comedy/stand-up

Yep, all 3 volumes. Plus a bunch of other such stuff. It's simply a question of practice. I read a bunch of simpler comics as a kid of course, but have only had time to indulge very little as an adult in the more modern stuff.

Seems perfect research fodder for your book project.
That said, watch (and don't read) The Boys.
