I’m personally fine with this for the same reasons I’m fine with suicide and euthanasia. So long as opting in to disability doesn’t make you a burden on others. Obvious room for abuse.

A desire to commit suicide is often mental illness, and should be treated as such. Sometimes however, it's rationale, like in a terminally ill patient with great pain. I can't think of when a desire for a disability is rationale (unless there are some perverse econ incentives.)
