Dishonesty implies deliberateness. You are implying dishonesty is not as a choice here but as a state of being. Ontological as opposed to teleogical.

Perhaps it is deliberate. Most personal dishonesty is wrapped in layers of shame/embarrassment and a desperate need to hold on to a certain way of being seen. Dropping morality labels from the dishonesty allows things to crash quickly and to gather understanding for a reboot.
