Furry conventions are something like 25% celebration of associated media/art/performance, 25% sex, 50% identity validation I think. Victory is hanging out with people you like and being reminded that you aren't actually the only idiot on earth doing this

It varies from convention to convention. The science fiction book conventions have a different flavour than the ones focused on tv shows and the anime conventions have yet another flavour.
