Is there a good take on when discourses around violence end up focused on means (“terrorism”, “gun culture”) rather than ends (“fascism”, “genocide”, “drug war”)? I get corner cases like WMDs in authoritarian hands but not general case.

Means are subject to social or governmental control. Ends are easily obfuscated and therefore nearly impossible to regulate. It's us looking for keys under the streetlamp because that's where the light is.

Yes, or means like recycling, diversity, education, veganism, pet rescue, organic, and "reaching out?" How can methods be discussed in the absence of fruition? My gut check: are they advocating for beauty? wealth? intelligence? strength? or humor? If not, run away.
