One of the interesting necessary conditions for wisdom of crowds to emerge is private knowledge. People must know something about X independently of others. Then sum can be greater than parts. Emergent wisdom.
Apply that to people who follow you (> 100 is a crowd).
Conversation
If 100 people follow you because 99 others do and only 1 person has an independent reason, it’s much weaker emergent wisdom than from 100 independent reason followers.
Would you want 200 new followers from 1 viral tweet or 100 from independent tweets each earning you 1?

I suspect there’s precise math here. You probably need 500+ viral-tweet new follows to replicate wisdom boost of 100 independents.

It’s actually pretty hard to deviate from the wisdom level of a crowd that’s allocated you an attention fraction. It can drag you down or lift you up to its level.
Goethe’s Faust but for crowd egregores rather than devil 😆

Depends - a bunch of us -- , , me, etc got signal boosted by 's list of 55 which gave a bunch of high quality followers & commenters that informed future tweets in good direction

I got extended gravity assist from Marc between like 5k to 10k part of growth curve, over about a year. He was a big schelling point that year. Definitely a mixed blessing as his own retreat from twitter reveals. Lots of scenester noise got added too. Some of it very aggro.

I can agree from the other boundary condition since I only have ~50 independents total.
The best connections have come from "follower shares" where an account with weight says ~"meet each other". Then followers join via bios/pitches instead of a single popular/regular tweet.
