It worries me that there seems to be no pattern to the people I find to be signal rather than noise. It’s like a underdog sports team of misfits in a tropey B-movie. Each has a random weird ability to unlock some perspective I want to see while being a train wreck in other ways.

This is not the movies of course. 3/r of these people are going to screw up these lives, and as a team it’s not going to win anything (it’s only a headcanon team of course; they mostly don’t know I have them in my signal bundle, and are mostly not aware of each other)

It’s generally not a good thing to be in my signal set. It’s a bit like being a CI to a low-level cop in a bad neighborhood. That’s why I don’t tell people when they’re in there.

The future is a sort of animistic time demigod that chooses randomly who to reveal itself to, in incoherent bits and pieces. To navigate hazards of prophecy you must find these people and collect the pieces before you can even try to assemble a cure. Unecenly distributed indeed.

This reminds me of Paracelsus saying that his teachers had been "Gypsies, conjurers, charlatans, sorcerers, midwives, bandits, convicts, and thieves."
Kind of a diverse bunch and yet there's a world of difference between a thief and another thief.

Online is a crowd like any other where you trust your instincts and roll the dice.
