"Decency" is one of the things that's gotten hypernormalized. It's 2019 and you still think trying to shame Trump for this or that is a meaningful thing to do, even as a signal to your allies, let alone as an attempt to influence his behavior?

how do you square this with increasing social sensitivity / more consequence around political correctness? Are only special groups (or individuals) exempt from the consequences of perceived indecency?
-
It's not special groups. It's the institutional mechanisms available to police different groups. POTUS is only vulnerable to congressional or supreme court action. Journalists can be shamed. People in ordinary jobs can be fired. Random internet people can be doxxed.

Furthermore, it is a symbolic way to show those you interact with that you give a fuck about how you affect the world around you. Some people have an interest in displaying how little they require consent/support. I think it's a sign of sociopathy
