Doing research on a zeitgeisty idea is very different from doing research on a scholarly question. There’s no specific set of journals to go to, or convergent citation paths leading to canonical Straussian sources. All you can do is cast a wide net.

Academic research modes are a bit like VC investing: only things that fit a very specific set of checklist pre-conditions and return profile can be addressed by either. Most investable ideas aren’t VC-investable. Most research questions are not scholar/academia researchable.

In fact, despite a decade in the scholarly mode of research, 90% of what I know about researching blog-like zeitgeist ideas comes from mystery novels and sci-fi, not scholarly practices.
