Thought: recovery is more about restoring order than energy. What is truly exhausting is not energy expenditure but entropy increase. Structured expenditure of energy, like a run or gym session are actually restorative overall, and locally (muscles) quick recovery.

The recovery starts with the workout itself- 80%+ of workouts shouldn’t leave you feeling completely drained. You should have refueled during the workout (as appropriate). And afterwords recovery starts with diet and continues to sleep.

The absolute best athletes understand an off day is an off day from the workouts but not an excuse to start eating like garbage. The rest is where the real growth emerges.
