Lately I’ve had this odd sense that people take me both less seriously and more seriously than they did 5-6 years ago. I like it. Kinda liberating.

Easier to be direct without causing offense for one. Beyond about 20k followers you turn into some sort of cartoon apparently. Things you say get passed through a cartoonizing filter. Unconscious heuristic: “No signal that 20k+ people are paying attention to can have much alpha”

Not just you, but I notice that when someone has a vague profile photo, the characterization of that person in my mind feels different than what it would be if it were to instead be a photo of that person
