(a) If the social safety net is impossible to maintain it won't be maintained... (b) If all land, all property, ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD can be bought by anyone, who's the winner in that? The guys with the most money? And the loser? The citizens of uber poor countries. 2/

You should post this as a separate thread calling out actual people you think are arguing this. As a reply to my thread it comes across as knee jerk whataboutism around a strawman version of open borders. I have tweeted about my views on open borders elsewhere.

That’s the problem with Twitter, of course 😀. The environment I’m seeing (including the most recent Dem debate) is different from the context you’re seeing. ..

The cool thing to say would be that my words should speak for themselves! But truth is I don’t care enough to choose a pic or write a bio. I tend to assume anyone who actually cares about me can read through my (massively opinionated) stream and get a feeling within a few tweets.

“Words speak for themselves” is a bs line people trot out when they unconsciously want to avoid scrutiny. Unless you’re publishing math proofs. If you don’t care enough to give some indication of where you’re coming from, tbh I don’t care enough to engage.

Fair enough. But what should I put in a bio that “clarifies” my earlier statements? My birthplace? Race? Education? Jobs? A lot of what I tweet is about computer micro-architecture. I also have opinions on physics and pop culture... 1/

There’s a limit to what a bio can hold, and it’s not clear to me what’s relevant to state, especially with so many possible contexts. I’m not trying to be a dick here, just to point out that, like most “I contain multitudes”. //

I try to learn Twitter etiquette from those who know better than me. I am serious. If you believe I need a hosted bio, that’s an incentive to write one, but I need to know where to write it. Teach a man to fish and all that.
