The use of the fabric tag as an integrated part of the design, which seems like a design cue which you would originally see on textiles/stuffed animals/furniture, but not historically on electronics.

That’s true. Feel like maybe they weren’t perceived in quite the same way though, either because they’re less prominent than these types of fabric designs or because some speakers may read as slightly more “domestic” than other electronics to begin with?

Can recall a personal memory from around when I was ~10 or 11 and I was surprised to suddenly figure out that the front covers of my computer speakers (which I’d already been using for a year or so) were made of cloth instead of some harder material.

Speakers (and not just woofers) used to feel closer to furniture because they were very big and arranged with furniture-like considerations. Old TVs came in explicitly furniture-aesthetic cabinetry, as did old radios.
