I thought the Harry Potter movies were better than the books *despite* the weaknesses of the books. Visiting theme park (also better than books) reinforced that sense. Now I think they were better *because* of the weaknesses of the books, which now look like strengths to me.

I liked the HP books considerably more than the movies, at least after the first two. But with LOTR, I liked the movies better than the books. I thought they developed the characters much better, and a lot of the lore that was dropped was added back into the Hobbit trilogy.

You must have read the books as an adult. If you did not read the books in your teens you cannot experience the feel of hogwarts. I reread as an adult and somehow Hogwarts was lot less appealing
