Yeah there’s a hormesis angle here. Give them a small dose of your ugly side so they are able to handle the test of your ugly side without hating you.

Is this something to really "make sure to do"? I suspect we all have our caveatable social faults already without leaning into them. Even people who obsess about their likeability, in itself that's a narccisism that some people will comment on.

Talking to high level engineers is a good reminder that this works. It's such a difficult balancing act to know their audience, and time consuming. From the opposite perspective, you learn to prepare yourself before speaking with others, unless you love weathering the storm.
