LA thoughts, Day 5. Damn it’s been 5 days already? So the idea I’ve heard from multiple people is that LA is not a single city or mega city but a collection of small cities connected by highways/transit. I don’t think this is quite right. It’s like a dozen partial cities.

If you could construct affinity maps, I suspect you’d get a high score for Bombay-LA, in “if you like X you’ll like Y” sense. Similarities go well beyond both being balmy western-coast film industry cities. Bombay was literally a bunch of islands that were linked up.

Huh, would be interested to hear your take on Seattle, something felt weird to me about its energy last time I visited but I couldn't pin it down.

It’s not as complex as locals pretend, which is a good thing

I suspect the puzzle of LA will draw you in,it's such an intricate web of globalization, technology and cultures that I think is weirdly not studied well from a systems perspective

Valley is an asphalt jungle. Hills a mystery unless attending a party or a wedding. Anecdotally speaking I've never met a native of LA living in LA altho I know they exist. & everyone in LA has a dream. I think it matters and is in some way part of why LA grows the way it does.

My brother lives there w his wife and baby. Took him 20 years of saving, earning good money, to purchase a house (Redondo). Another clue imo
