Maybe this is projection, summer heat and exhaustion talking but LA seems somehow lower energy and higher dissipation than any other major city. Like the idea of “city” strolled to the SW corner of the continent and kinda just loosened its belt and sank exhausted into a recliner

I’ll close with initial sense of pros/cons: Pros: La dolce vita, most authentic (ironically) embodiment of postmodern human condition where authenticity is a not-even-wrong idea in funhouse mirror palace of simulation Cons: high powder-keg potential due to deep-rooted denialism

I have half-ass promised a dozen people in LA to get coffee/drinks with across 3-4 messengers and email. I have no idea how to get a considerate social thing going. The “LA slacker” syndrome
@Mapophenic told me about is already infecting me (can’t find link... will add later)Show this thread -
Found the link, thanks Megan. LA flaker, not slacker, though I suppose that too

every city is like riding a camel, until you learn its rhythm you'll be fight it, once you learn the rhythm you'll have a nice ride. It's not a city one can correctly experience alone, but thankfully one that's easy to find co-conspirators. Everyone wants to take you someplace.
