“Technology” as a distinct arena comparable to say religion or politics didn’t really exist before the 1600s or so. There were merely clever people who sometimes made clever things. I wonder: what fragmented activity of today will be an arena of the human condition in 2400?

Maybe something along the lines of world creation? It kinda exist in bits and pieces now-books and movies let you play with a world in your imagination, some games give you a world to play with. Given that humans are data, eventually there might be a whole industry of worldmaking

2400 is a long way off, but even in the relatively near future I think that separation will disappear again, whether because it’s an actual aberration or effectively an aberration. It’s unsustainable.

Or tech did it exist -- but was ignored by the writing classes? Vitruvius, Agricola, Renaissance artists turpentine effect. If we make it to 2400, there will be professional meaning providers. Mix of priest + therapist + manufacturer of consent.
