You know that effect where you tap out a melody in your head and you think it's a lot more obvious to others than it actually is (I forget the ref)? There's a reverse effect where you think a signal is very impoverished but people get it easily.

I make quiz questions and this "quality of signal" issue is one I encounter a lot. Just what clues to add to a puzzle-like question is a Goldilocks problem.
