Repair mavens: I have this tightly stuck screw with a stripped philips head holding a ceiling fan blade to ritir. It’s slightly under rotor rim so screwdriver can only get at it at a slight angle off vertical. How do I get it off? A rubber band hack from YouTube didn’t work.

1. Use a small metal file or metal saw to notch the cap of the screw and then use a flat tip which is easier to use off centre.
2. Use a plain philips bit with a wrench to create something that resembles a right angle screwdriver, similar to this:

ooh that second suggestion is something I could try now with what tools I have!

Dang. I imagine the tricky part is keeping the bit engaged with the screw head, since you can’t push down on it easily. If I were there I would try to tap the bit with a hammer to seat it in the screw, turn the arm with a short jerk to get the screw moving a little, & repeat

If you’re holding the bit tightly with vice grips, mayyybe you could tap the vice grips instead of the bit
