Many of you have been asking me about my move to LA. In brief, I’ve accepted an academic year fellowship at the Berggruen institute, @berggruenInst. I’ll be working out of their Bradbury building location in DTLA (featured in OG 1982 Blade Runner movie

When
@nils_gilman invited me to apply for the fellowship, I was initially reluctant, since I like Seattle a lot, plus I felt I’d gone too feral over the last decade to work in an institutional setting again. For fun: my post, On Going Feral, from 2009:https://www.ribbonfarm.com/2009/08/19/on-going-feral/ …3 replies 0 retweets 19 likesShow this thread -
In theory, I’ll be working on a book project I’ve been nursing for a few years. Working title: multitemporality. A brief introduction to my thinking on the topic can be found in this talk I did at TDC Newcastle last year:https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=tSE8VdaZNuY …

For those of you who’ve been following my writing for a while, the genesis of the idea was actually my 2015 post, On the Design of Escaped Realitieshttps://www.ribbonfarm.com/2015/01/16/on-the-design-of-escaped-realities/ …

Another personal trailhead for me was my first book, Tempo (2011). There were a lot of themes I wanted to address then that I didn’t because I didn’t feel prepared enough. I still don’t, but these days I don’t let that stop me from trying stuff

A book is the plan, but I have no idea what I’ll actually end up with, within this broad theme. Perhaps I’ll end up with an interpretive dance piece, or a trading card game, or a movie script instead. Whatever I end up doing will develop at https://multitemporality.com

Beyond the year? I have no idea. Perhaps my wife
@meeyong and I will return to Seattle. Perhaps we’ll like LA enough to stay. I haven’t dealt with a personal horizon longer than a month in 5 years (when I did a similar longer gig, though non-residential, with@a16z in 2014-15).2 replies 1 retweet 8 likesShow this thread -
That gig resulted in
@breaking_smart which was, and remains, one of the most fun ongoing projects in my life. Hopefully, something equally fun comes out of this one, wish me luckhttps://breakingsmart.com/en/dontpanic/5 replies 1 retweet 26 likesShow this thread -
