A funny thing that sometimes happens is that someone holds a opinion shallow-P and convinces you to hold it too. But then you go deeper than they did to deep-P, get more attached to it, while they change their mind to shallow notP. A nerdsniping + shallow-horseshoe effect.

I’m usually on the shallow end of this dynamic, but very occasionally, I’m on the deep end. You feel a comically unreasonable resentment towards the person. Like they gave you a ride to a party but left before you, leaving you stranded looking for a ride back.

I notice this in a bunch of stories – like the protagonist is getting taught to do some mild crime, light treason... and doesn't really want to... but then eventually ends up running the whole damn syndicate and probably has to kill the mentor who says "wow... u are Truly Evil"
