I don’t mind it. Mostly I ignore the fandom commentary. It’s like yelp reviews. If the activity surfaces a paper that seems to have an insight I appreciate, I read it.

There is weirdness in every community, but I think it sometimes helps call out dishonesty in academia. And helps prevent uncritical acceptance of academic authority (which is often compromised).

I don't think I understand. Academic research is open to public critique. If the critisicm is valid, I'd like to hear about it and correct the mistakes made by scientists (especially in this replication crisis era). I suppose you're talking about some particular ill behavior?
