Straightforward chronos amnesia where you forget everything about a particular block of time, full blackout, is kinda uninteresting. Kairos amnesia that acts on threads of the stream of consciousness is what I'm interested in.

There has to be a causing factor too, like some Sun too bright.

My first thought was specific people, which reminds me of Eternal Sunshine.

This would be an emotional blockage, right? Emotion is what determines the brightness level. People already do this. They pretend something didn't happen, or doesn't matter, so they aren't blinded and can see the things around it. Basically holding their hand over the event.

What’s the best way to do this in a controlled artificial way? I agree emotional charge is baseline how brightness is modulated, though not entirely (for eg, 9/11 is coded as very important in my head but not supercharged emotionally at a personal level)

Then it would be easier to remember all the lessons that we learn along the way, always telling ourselves we'll keep them in mind for next time but never remembering until after we repeat the mistake.
