fyi it just means exercise/practice in the ordinary sense in modern Hindi. You seem to have picked up some archaic spiritual connotation in Sanskrit

I often wonder if there's words in a modern Euro-tongue that get ported over to India/East Asian countries that carries religious meaning in its earlier forms but doesn't in modern use, but similarly is used in its archaic form.
The word seems to have encoded in it a notion of compound interest benefits.
