British history question: was there any major economic downturn and/or a rise of big populist movements in the UK between ~1850 and 1910? A Brexit-like period? Late Victorian + Edwardian era seems to have been a pretty serene era for Brits.

You can view https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_Kingdom_general_elections … click on each link, and get quick summary of what each election was about. To my eye it looks like politics as usual, with discontent at change (or the lack thereof) in the same way as always.

It's hard to see anything as "Brexit-level" in retrospect, for the same reason "none dare call it treason"; with enough distance everything in the past looks like it was OK bcs it led to us...
