IOW living less conveniently, more energy, than necessary.

Life is not a satisficing problem. This may be the fatal flaw in economic theorizing. Markets can only deliver satisficing conveniences. Inconvenience is priceless.
The underspecified life is not worth living. Overspecification is the spice of life.

Agreed that these bits are under-theorized, but markets often enable that selective inconvenience, no?
I get to spend time writing notes in a paper journal or whatever inconvenience I perceive as beneficial because someone else handles e.g. inconveniences of growing my food

Yeah but they do that by supplying conveniences. Eg you don’t have to make paper too unless you want to.

It can feed back on itself too. "Paper" was mostly a one-dimensional commodity to me until I started writing on it more. Then I discovered a particular notebook I liked
Paper quality being meaningful would've been obvious to anyone living in an all-paper world/time
