An under-discussed part of end of history thesis is the “...and the last man” part. It’s actually the more interesting bit. The idea of “men without backs” who are comfort-seeking Eloi-like vs those who desperately seek escape from that with extreme sports etc.

I also interpret this as a caring deficit. The more comfortable and convenient life gets, the harder it is to get invested in things that traditionally catalyzed deep caring, like religion

I see this as part of my theory of the source of meaning. The one remaining src of meaning (knowledge broadly interpreted to include not just sci/tech but also eg history) remains robust and cared about by the best.
The problem is srcs of meaning (ie caring) for everyone else.

I don't know: SV puts an enormous amount of energy into comfort and convenience. If a software engineer is inconvenienced even briefly, they will found a new start up to rid the world of the thing that dared inconvenienced them: and that is called making the world a better place
