Friends who are parents tell me a baby’s directive is to put as many things in its mouth as possible

I read once that a baby realises it exists at around 6 weeks of age. IDK if it is true or not, but they def. do cry for a few days at 6 wks. They know they exist, but they aren't sure what happens to you when you leave the room. That's some existential stuff right there.
