Go for it. I’m apparently in the minority. Everybody loves it it seems.

Is there ever any explanation of time tombs, shrike, who sent them backwards from future, more deets on speculative tech etc? I looked for spoilers but couldn’t find any. There’s apparently nothing to spoil.

The rest of the series doesn't add much, no. I was definitely disappointed by the rest. I had hoped Simmons would finish his version of Canterbury Tales, but instead he stops when the original story ends, which is frustratingly early.

I hope you’re not so let down that you avoid Ilium, it has Greek gods, AI life forms, Shakespeare and Proust.

I am. I’m done. I don’t read sci-fi for literary references.

I'm glad someone else has the same feeling about Hyperion as I did, and now I don't feel bad about quitting the series.
