Japan is also a much more inward focused society as well to begin with, right? More of life happens in domestic, or at least sub-public contexts?

I thought the old (ex. late 90s/early 2000s) term for stuff outside the coverage of search engines was “deep web,” but of course now that’s too easily confused with the darknet by a casual audience.

Mushroom web: it’s not visible from above ground, it connects up trees into an organism of organisms that acts as a trust chain (pathway) over which SOS signals can travel, information gets distributed through and asked for, and resources get shared along.
