From NYT in Old Media to Stratechery in New Media, an iron subscription curtain has descended across the web. At the heart of it, the Berlin Paywall. People on the one side desperate to get through, over, under... Feels odd to be building my first paywalled property.

I stubbornly refuse to pay. All the good stuff makes it accross eventually (sometimes by a promotion effort by the author itself). Feels at best like paying for early access (and being a guinea pig) and at worse like paying for anabundance of premium mediocre extras.

The point is not the content. The point is, the associated communities are moving behind the paywall. The content is just an excuse increasingly.
