I’ve seen multiple people post “I’m turning 30” musings on social media. I don’t think there was anywhere stable I could have done that when I turned 30. I was in private mode 2000-2007 anyway. Posted on a couple of intranet type forums which I don’t think survive anymore.

Livejournal was the thing at the time. Indeed, there’s a subset of late Gen X/early millennials who finished growing up on LJ.

30 as a ritualistic marking of progress could still work. But neotony is longer now. The ritual used to be “now that I’ve been an adult for a few years.”
But here it’s more “now that I’m starting to turn into an adult over next 4-7 years.”
Frustration in the dissonance.

30. I’d only just moved to a new country, new language. Was working with an older set anyway. So I wan’t in any mood to advertise my coming of age.

You reminded me of a similar post by many years ago. That was fun, thanks for the memory.
